Walking near Cradle Mountain, Tasmania
Douglas Miller's ministry at Wesley began in July, 2007
He grew up in New Zealand, and migrated to Australia at age 21. He taught maths in Tasmania for two years and then studied for the Ministry of the Presbyterian Church. He learnt to know the Methodist tradition when the churches united to form the Uniting Church in June, 1977.
He has been minister in churches in Victoria, at Wycheproof, Moe-Yallourn, Warrandyte, Belmont, Wodonga and Bendigo South, and was then a Presbytery Minister in Melbourne for nine years.
Douglas is married to Leonie, and has three adult children and two grandchildren.
He stresses the value of studygroups, and and learned the value of the insights that people of various Asian and Pacific cultures bring to the Uniting Church. He values and will seek to enhance the cross-cultural nature of Wesley Church.
As a Minister, he stresses:
- that the Gospel of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is central to everything we believe in the Christian faith.
- that Christian worship should reflect the major traditions of the church worship, and not seek a highly individual style. He delights in the quality of music that Wesley Church is able to offer.
- that the Church in Australia must be cross-cultural in its life, welcoming and including people of many different cultures and languages.
- that major issues should be explained in language as simple as possible. He knows this is not always possible, but should always be our aim.
- that the orthodox faith is central to the life and worship of the Christian Church, especially the doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation.
- that people come to Church to hear and be helped by the faith of the whole Church, arising from the Scriptures, rather than the Minister's opinions.
We hope you will feel welcome if you can join us at Wesley Church sometime.
